Lake Myrtle, Fla. … The College of New Jersey closed outs its Florida spring trip in familiar fashion, claiming their fourth extra-inning victory and third with junior reliever
Matt Curry (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) on the mound.
Â
The #13 Lions (7-3) came back twice down to their last out to defeat #24 Suffolk University 6-5 in 10 innings to improve to 7-3 on the season. A two-out, RBI single in the bottom of the ninth by junior
Patrick Anderson (Long Hills, NJ/West Morris Catholic) tied the game, 4-4 and sent it to extra innings. After the Rams plated a run in the 10
th, TCNJ responded with two to walk-off for the third time on the trip.
Â
Curry came in relief of starter
Michael Fischer (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) in the eighth inning. Fisher surrendered four runs and struck out seven in seven innings of work. In the eighth, the tall right-hander took the mound and retired three Suffolk batters in order. Curry tossed a scoreless inning in the ninth and was touched for a run in the tenth. The Lions worked their magic in the bottom of the inning to end the contest.
Â
It was a tremendous Florida swing for Curry. He pitched in five games and won four of them in ten and two-thirds innings of work. Curry struck out 12, walked two, and gave up just five hits and one earned run.
Â
Trailing 4-1 in the seventh, freshman
Jacob Simon (Hightstown, NJ/Hightstown) singled and later scored on a wild pitch. Anderson then delivered his first run-scoring single of the game to pull within a run.
Â
He came through again in the ninth to tie the score, 4-4. Junior
Zachary Shindler (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) nearly had a his second walk-off hit of the trip when he followed with a single, but

Â
Down 5-4 in the 10
th with two out,
Mike Follet (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) reached on an error by the pitcher.
Alex Christian (Milltown, NJ/Spotswood), who had singled to lead off the inning, scored the tying run. Sophomore
Ryan Fischer (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) then ripped a shot at the shortstop that he couldn't handle to allow Follet to score.
Â
Persichetti, Anderson, Shindler, and Varone all finished with two hits in the game.
Â
TCNJ returns to action on Tuesday, March 21 when they visit Gwynedd-Mercy University for a 3:00 p.m. game.
