Ramapo takes two off TCNJ

Mahwah, NJ… The College of New Jersey softball team was swept in a New Jersey Athletic Conference double header by Ramapo College (19-7, 9-1) Saturday afternoon. The Lions (11-13, 3-7) lost the opening game 3-0 and fell 8-2 in the nightcap.

In the opener, the Roadrunners struck first plating two on a double to left center by Nicole Mahoney. In the second inning Ramapo extended the lead, scoring a run via a wild pitch. Both pitchers settled in as the team's offenses were unable to score over the final five innings.

The Lions threatened loading the bases in the top of the sixth, but an innocent fly out to center field ended the rally. Katrina Buczkowski (7-1) pitched the complete-game shut-out to earn the victory.

Megan Hevey (Robbinsville, NJ / Robbinsville) went 3-for-3 with a double in her Lions debut. Jess McGuire (Stockton, NJ / Hunterdon Central) added a multi-hit game of her own with a pair of singles.

TCNJ out-hit Ramapo 8-4, but left nine players on base.

In the nightcap, Grace Brennan staked the Roadrunners to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second with a two-run homer over the left field fence. Mahoney struck again in the bottom of the third blasting a three-run shot to left.

The Roadrunners tacked on two more in the bottom of the fifth to extend the cushion to 7-0. Jess Santelli (Hillsborough, NJ / Hillsborough), who had her 16-game streak reaching base safely snapped in game one, responded by hitting her third homer of the season. Annalise Suitovsky (Warren Twp., NJ / Watchung Hills) recorded an RBI single in the top of the seventh.

???????TCNJ travels to Stockton University for an NJAC double header Tuesday, April 18 at 3:00 pm.
