Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Second-Half Goals Lead Lions to 2-1 Win

Frostburg, MD … A pair of second-half goals less than a minute apart sparked The College of New Jersey men's soccer team to its second win in as many days.

The Lions (2-0) rallied from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Bridgewater College, 2-1 on Saturday in the Frostburg State University Tournament. TCNJ won both of its contests to get off to a strong start to the 2017 season. Senior Michael Kassak (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown), junior Nick Sample (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) and freshman James Pike (Short Hills, NJ/St. Peter's Prep) were named to the All-Tournament Team after excelling on the pitch over the weekend.

Trailing 1-0 at the break, Sample tied the game off a feed from Kassak just over 10 minutes into the second period. Less than a minute later, Kassak led Pike on a fast break and the rookie tucked it away for the difference-maker. It was the first collegiate goal for Pike and the second assist of the match for Kassak.

Bridgewater's Alex Piro gave his team the lead in the 35th minute. He found himself one-on-one with Lions' goalkeeper Michael Kayal (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) and lofted it into the back of the net.

TCNJ turned it on in the second half, outshooting Bridgewater, 12-0. Sample had a pair of shots saved and another blocked in a two-minute span before cashing in his first tally of the year in the 56th minute. A miscue by the defense allowed Kassak to set up Pike at the 56:21 mark. Sample nearly made it 3-1 when he hit the post with a shot in the 76th minute.

Kayal recorded two saves for his second win.

TCNJ will have a few days of rest from competitive play before hosting Stevens Institute of Technology in its home opener this Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Lions Stadium.
