Ewing, NJ … The College of New Jersey men's soccer team put forth a strong effort against unbeaten Drew University, but a goal by Greg Swenson in the second overtime lifted the Rangers (7-0-1) to a 2-1 victory.
Â
The Lions (4-4) battled to contain the top-scoring offense in the nation and held them to just one goal off a follow-up to a penalty kick in regulation. But Swenson poked in a scramble in front of the net off a restart to end the game in the 104
th minute of play.

TCNJ goalkeeper
Michael Kayal (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) was tremendous in net, registering six saves against a potent Drew offense.
Â
It was an even contest throughout the opening period. The Lions had their best scoring chance with 12 minutes remaining in the half. Freshman
Ryan Vazquez (Kinnelon, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) found space on the left side and ripped a shot, but it caromed off the cross bar, as period the ultimately ended scoreless.
Â
The Lions took a 1-0 lead off an own goal in the 67
th minute. An aerial cross in front was mistakenly kicked in by a Ranger defender to give TCNJ a one-goal advantage.
Â
With 26:14 remaining in the match, Kayal came up with a big save off Drew forward Aidan Cserhat. Cserhat, who entered the game fourth nationally in goals with nine, received a pass just outside the keeper box on the left side. He quickly struck a shot from six yards out, but Kayal came out to make a kick save.
Â
Cserhart eventually tied the match with 10:22 remaining in regulation. The Rangers were awarded a PK and Cserhart's attempt was stopped on a diving save by Kayal. Cserhart swiftly jumped on the rebound to knock in his 10
th tally of the season.
Â
Three minutes into the first overtime, Ranger Anthony McMyme collected a misplayed ball from 25 yards out. He carried and ripped a shot towards the right corner, but Kayal dove to his left to bat the ball away and out of bounds.
Â
On the final play of the night, Drew was awarded a free kick from 25 yards out on the left side. McMyne got a shot off in front that was blocked by a TCNJ defender. The ball bounced out to the left and Swenson was in position to deposit the game-winner.
Â
The Lions' defensive unit, led by
Nick Provenzano (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central),
Matt Decker (Warren, NJ/Watchung Hills) and
Sebastian Leon (Bergenfield, NJ/Bergenfield) did an excellent job in front of Kayal against a talented Drew offense.
