EWING, N.J. – The College of New Jersey men's soccer team ended their season on a high note, as they picked up a 1-0 victory over Rowan University on Wednesday night. The Lions bumped their record to 10-6-2 including 3-4-2 in the NJAC, while the Profs fell to 11-6 and 5-4 in conference action.
On senior night, the two Lions seniors led the way. In the 22
nd minute,
Nick Sample was fouled on an aggressive take inside of the box to give the Lions the penalty kick. Fellow senior
Joerg Jauk slipped it in the right side to put the Lions ahead 1-0. Jauk has been excellent on the PK this season and his career, as he is a perfect 5-5 on his career in that category.
That goal wound up being all the Lions needed. Keeper
Daniel Mecadon played strong in net, and kept the Profs off of the scoreboard. Rowan had an opportunity right before the first half ended, yet Mecadon denied the attempt to keep TCNJ in front.
Mecadon came through in the clutch, as he denied an attempt in the 82
nd minute to keep the Lions out in front. The Profs had their chances, yet were unable to find the equalizer and the Lions held onto the win.
At halftime the Lions honored Jauk and Sample for their dedication and commitment to the program the last four years.
