No. 7 Women's Soccer Edged in Penalty Kicks by No. 5 Williams

GENEVA, N.Y. – In a tremendously hard fought NCAA Division III Championship Sectional game, the seventh ranked College of New Jersey women's soccer team was edged by fifth ranked Williams College in penalty kicks. TCNJ finishes its season with a record of 15-1-2.

Early on both teams went through a feeling out period, and the match was very evenly played. TCNJ had a scoring opportunity in the 12th minute, when Ally DeRiggi had a shot from 12 yards out that was saved by the diving Williams keeper.

Williams had a prime opportunity in the 29th minute with a free kick from 30 yards out, yet TCNJ keeper Nicole DiPasquale came up with a big diving save to her left.

The battle continued in the second half, with both teams vying for the chance to go ahead. Both defensive units played strong and limited the chances on the opposing offensive side. Williams had a look in the 73rd minute, yet DiPasquale came up with the clutch save once again to keep the zero on the board. In the 82nd minute, Jen McGrogan took a shot that sailed high, then Taylor Nolan had an opportunity yet was denied by the Williams keeper.

In the second overtime, Nolan had a shot went high, then a few minutes later Despina Lianidis sent in a header that sailed wide left. After 110 hard fought minutes, the game went into penalty kicks. Arielle Curtis, DeRiggi, and Kelly Carolan each converted, however Williams put four in to advance.

Despite the setback, TCNJ enjoyed another outstanding season. The Lions captured their 18th New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship, and made their 28th consecutive appearance in the NCAA DIII Championship Tournament. They had two First Team All-NJAC players in Nolan and Faith Eichenour. Additionally, TCNJ had four Second Team All-NJAC honorees in Curtis, McGrogan, DeRiggi, and Nikki Butler, while DiPasquale earned an All-NJAC Honorable Mention. The future certainly remains bright for the TCNJ women's soccer program.
