CLAREMONT, Calif. –  In the final game of the 2018 David Wells Classic, The College of New Jersey women's basketball team was defeated by Claremont McKenna College by a final score of 87-52. The Lions dropped to 1-3 on the young season with the loss, while Claremont McKenna improved their record to 4-1.
Claremont McKenna raced out to an early 11-2 advantage, yet TCNJ used an 8-4 stretch to pull within five.
Shannon Devitt knocked down a jumper off of a
Cailey Gibson assist, then Devitt converted on an and-one to make it a 15-7 game. A couple of possessions later,
Sam Famulare knocked down a three pointer to pull TCNJ to 15-10.
In the second quarter, Claremont McKenna was able to build a 44-27 lead by halftime. The second half was controlled by the Mudd Scripps and they were able to secure the win.
Famulare scored 11 points to lead the Lions. Devitt scored eight points and grabbed four rebounds, while
Jen Byrne added eight points along with six rebounds.
Rachel Gazzola added eight points and five rebounds coming off of the bench.
TCNJ will return to action for a New Jersey Athletic Conference game on the road against Rowan University on Nov. 28, at 6:00 p.m.
