KING'S POINT, N.Y. – The College of New Jersey wrestling team proved why they are one the top teams in the country, earning a pair of dual victories at the Mariner Duals Sunday afternoon. The 15
th-ranked Lions defeated 18
th-ranked New York University 29-15 before going on to defeat the host United States Merchant Marine Academy 34-12. The Lions improved to 2-1 on the season. The Violets dropped to 2-1 on the year and the Mariners fell to 0-2.

In the opener, the Lions jumped out to a quick advantage as
Ryan Manahan earned a decision victory at 125 followed by pins from
Nic Mele and
Robert Dinger at 133 and 141 respectively. A tech. fall at 149 by
Ryan Budzek would give TCNJ an insurmountable 20-0 lead. A pin by
Dan Kilroy at 174 and decision by
Daniel Surich at 184 closed out the scoring for the Lions.

In the second dual, Manahan received a forfeit to put TCNJ up 6-0. A
Mike Plaska tech. fall victory would extend the lead to 11-0. Dinger won a major decision, giving the Lions a 15-0 lead. At 149, Budzek earned his second tech. fall of the day and
Mark Gerstacker won at 157 to put TCNJ up 23-0. Kilroy won via tech. fall at 174 and
Alex Mirabella earned a pin at 197 to secure the victory for the Lions.

TCNJ returns to action on Friday, Jan. 4 when the Lions host a quad match beginning at 12:00 p.m. TCNJ is scheduled to wrestle Muhlenberg College and King's College (Pa.).
