Salisbury, MD… The College of New Jersey softball team split their pair of games on day two of the Salisbury Invitational. The Lions defeated Keystone College 7-3, before falling in the nightcap 7-1 to Salisbury University. The Lions and Seagulls each finished the weekend 3-1, while the Giants finished 0-4.

Paige Mokychic got the Giants on the board in the bottom of the first with a home run to left center. The Lions responded in the top of the fourth when
Allie Immerso (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) punched a two-out RBI single through the right side of the infield.

The Lions exploded in the top of the fifth.
Megan Mayernik (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) started the inning with a lead-off single. After getting sacrificed into scoring position,
Gaby Bennett (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) ripped an RBI double.
Annalise Suitovsky (Warren Twp.,NJ/Watchung Hills) brought Bennett home with an RBI single.
Madison Levine (Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) and
Danielle Carey (Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) hit back-to-back doubles and
Jenna Schwartz (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville) hit a two-out single to end the five run frame.
Mayernik went four-for-four in the opening game.

Kristen Barrera (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) earned her first win of the season before
Sam Platt (Cedar Grove, NJ/Mount Saint Dominic Academy) pitched the final 2 1/3 innings for the save.

In the nightcap, The Lions were victimized by a six run fourth inning, capped by a grand slam from Amelia Trotter. The Lions got a run back in the bottom of the fifth on an Immerso infield single, but would get no closer.

In the game,
Alanna Namit (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) recorded six strikeouts in four innings of work.
