Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

TCNJ Downs Ramapo

Mahwah, NJ… The College of New Jersey women's basketball team (17-5, 12-3 NJAC) picked up a win against Ramapo College (6-16, 3-12 NJAC) in a conference match-up on Saturday afternoon by a final score of  74-55. The Lions have now won six out of their last seven games.

TCNJ pushed their lead to 13 with two minutes to play in the first half by way of a 16-4 stretch. The Lions defense locked down the Roadrunners during that stretch, as they only allowed one field goal from the 3:08 mark of the first quarter to the 1:51 mark of the second. Lauren Barlow (Spotswood, NJ/Bishop George AHR) hit a jumper with 25 seconds left to give the Lions a 29-21 lead that they would take into the locker room.

In the third period both sides traded buckets, and the Lions were holding onto a 43-35 lead entering the fourth. Kate O'Leary (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) hit a three pointer to cap off an 11-2 run that put the Lions up 51-38 with 7:33 to play. She hit again from behind the arc, and a triple from Jen Byrne (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) extended the TCNJ advantage to 66-47 with 2:46 to play.

Byrne was once again the leading scorer for the Lions, as she totaled 17 points. O'Leary tallied 13, and Samantha Famulare (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.) also finished the afternoon with 13 points. Barlow scored 11 points on an efficient 5-8 shooting coming off of the bench, and Charlotte Schum (East Hanover, NJ/Morris Catholic) scored six points, grabbed nine rebounds  and dished out six assists. Schum was also active on the defensive end as she registered four steals.

The Lions defense stifled the Roadrunners, as they forced 19 turnovers, and turned it into a 19-2 advantage in points off turnovers.

The Lions will return to the hardwood on Wednesday, February 7th to host William Paterson University in Packer Hall at 6pm.
