25th-Ranked Lions Earn Senior Day Sweep

Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey softball team was locked in on senior day, earning 8-0 and 6-1 victories over Montclair State University. The 25th-ranked Lions close out the regular season 28-6 overall and 16-2 in the NJAC. The Red Hawks finished the year at 23-13 and 9-9 in league play.

The Lions struck early in game one scoring on a Lauren Conroy (Aberdeen, NJ/Matawan Regional) single in the first. In the second, TCNJ tacked on another pair when Annalise Suitovsky (Warren Twp., NJ/Watchung Hills) doubled over the center fielder's head. Jess McGuire (Stockton, NJ/Hunterdon Central Regional) knocked home two more runs with a single in the third.

In the sixth, the Lions ended the game early. Suitovsky singled down the right field line then put runners on second and third advancing on the throw. After a sacfrifice fly by Madison Levine (Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills), Conroy produced the walk-off single to end the game early.

Alanna Namit (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) scattered three hits in the shut-out victory.

The Lions struck early in game two as well, Levine singled home a run, then came around to score on a Conroy double in the first. TCNJ got a pair of insurance runs in the fourth. McGuire hit a sac fly, then Megan Mayernik (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) ripped an RBI-single.

Gaby Bennett (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) scored her second run of the game on a wild pitch in the fifth. Suitovsky was clutch again in the sixth doubling home a run.

The Redhawks scored their lone run of the double header in the seventh, but Sam Platt (Cedar Grove, NJ/Mount Saint Dominic Academy) induced a fly out to earn the victory.

After the game the team honored its four graduating members, Platt, Levine, Danielle Carey (Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade), and Jenna Schwartz (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville). The three batters all recorded hits in the double header.

TCNJ will host their first round NJAC Tournament game against the sixth seed in Dr. June Walker field on Tuesday at 4:00 PM.
