BALTIMORE, Md. – The fourth ranked College of New Jersey women's soccer team fell just short in a hard fought match-up to eighth ranked Johns Hopkins 1-0. TCNJ now stands at 2-1 on the year while Johns Hopkins is 4-1.
Lions' keeper
Nicole DiPasquale came up with a pair of saves in the first 20 minutes to keep the Blue Jays' offense at bay. The Blue Jays cracked the scoring column in the 23rd minute behind a goal from Rachel Jackson. The Lions had an opportunity to score in the 28th minute yet
Jess Hall's shot was saved by the Johns Hopkins keeper.
Eight minutes into the second half the Lions had a pair of shots on goal turned away by the Blue Jays keeper. TCNJ kept their foot on the gas pedal and peppered shots yet were unable to get one by the stingy defense of Johns Hopkins. In the 73rd minute, Hall had a shot that got past the keeper yet was blocked by a defender. After controlling the rebound, her second shot was turned away by the keeper.
Julia Obst got off a pair of shots, and with nine seconds left
Julianna Bertolino had a chance and she let one fly however it was denied.
The Lions had a significant 15-4Â advantage in shots in the second period. In net DiPasquale totaled five saves. The Lions had an 18-11 shot edge on the game while the Blue Jays held a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.
TCNJ will return to the pitch for the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener against Rutgers-Newark on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m.
