EWING, N.J. –  The College of New Jersey women's basketball team led wire to wire on Wednesday night, and picked up a New Jersey Athletic Conference victory over Rutgers-Camden by a final score of 76-47. TCNJ improved its record to 13-8 on the season including 11-3 in conference action, while Rutgers-Camden dipped to 12-9 and 7-7 in conference action.
Sam Famulare came up with a steal two minutes into the game, and took it all the way for the lay in to make it a 9-2 TCNJ lead. On the next possession, Famulare would hit from three-point range. She was locked in, as two possessions later she hit another from beyond the arc to put the Lions up 17-9.
A trifecta from
Cailey Gibson with a minute and a half to play in the opening quarter put the Lions in front 24-12. TCNJ shot 10-for-14 from the field including 5-for-9 from three point range in the first quarter.
The Lions continued the hot shooting in the second quarter.
Rachel Gazzola and
Lauren Barlow hit back-to-back threes to make it a 33-18 advantage. A lay-up from Gibson would make it a 40-25 game with just over two minutes in the half, and TCNJ would take a 40-30 lead into the locker room.
Famulare continued to shoot well in the second half, as she hit a long two just over a minute in to put the Lions up 45-30.
Kate O'Leary would then find
Shannon Devitt with a nice pass, and Devitt scored from in close to make it a 17 point lead. Devitt would knock down a pair of free throws with just under two to go in the third to put the Lions up 53-32. The Lions were able to control the fourth quarter and hold onto the victory.
Famulare scored a team-high 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor.
Jen Byrne added 11 points and nine rebounds, while Barlow scored 11 points off of the bench and hit 3-of-3 from three-point range. Devitt grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds, and Gazzola tallied eight points off of the bench.
The Lions will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 2 for a road trip to Ramapo College. Tip is set for 1:00 p.m.
