GALLOWAY, N.J. – The College of New Jersey men's soccer team tied with Stockton University on Wednesday night by a final score of 0-0. TCNJ now stands at 10-2-4 including 2-1-4 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, while Stockton became 9-4-3 and 2-3-2 in the conference.
Stockton had a prime scoring opportunity right away in the 11
th minute with a penalty kick, however TCNJ goalkeeper
Daniel Mecadon slammed the door as he denied the penalty attempt.
In the 22
nd minute,
Dante Bettino took a shot, yet it was saved by Stockton goalkeeper Dino Gromitsaris. Mecadon picked up another save in the 36
th minute to keep the zero on the board.
In the second half, Mecadon picked up two more saves in the 69
th and the 70
th minute. He stopped another shot late in the 86
th minute to keep the match scoreless, and the game went into overtime.
Ryan Vazquez sent in a header in the 97
th minute that nearly crossed the line, yet a Stockton defender was able to clear the ball and deny the scoring threat. Neither side was able to break through in the final session, and the match resulted in a draw.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, Oct. 26 to take on Montclair State University at home. That will also be TCNJ's senior day.Â
