GLASSBORO, N.J. – The College of New Jersey men's soccer team was defeated Rowan University on Wednesday night by a final score of 2-1. TCNJ dipped to 10-4-4 and 2-3-4 in the NJAC, while Rowan improved to 9-4-3 and 5-3-1 in the conference.
The Profs got on the board first in the 24
th minute by way of a Modu Sowe goal. TCNJ had a scoring chance in the 36
th minute when
Justin Dominique sent in a shot, yet he was turned away by the Rowan goalkeeper.
In the 40
th minute,
Ryan Vazquez had a shot that was blocked by the Prof defense. Rowan took a 2-0 lead in the 42
nd minute with a Matt Hendrickson goal.
The Lions came out and battled in the second half, and did not let Rowan go easily into the night. TCNJ pulled within 2-1 in the 50
th minute with an
Ethan Mueller goal. Vazquez sent in a long cross from the right side, and Mueller punched a header into the lower right corner. The score marked the first of the season for Mueller.
The Rowan defense would not surrender any more, and held the Lions at one.
Michael Maltese sent in a shot in the 55
th minute that was saved in the Rowan keeper. Vazquez took a shot in the 87
th minute, yet it was saved to keep the Profs ahead by a goal.
In net for TCNJ was
Daniel Mecadon, who tallied 10 saves on the evening.
