EWING, N.J. – The No. 4 TCNJ women's soccer team saw its season come to a close on Sunday. The Lions were defeated by No. 13 Tufts University, 2-0 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Lions close out the year with a record of 17-2-1.
The match was a hard fought battle between two talented teams for the entire 90 minutes. Only four minutes in,
Alexandra Ryan ripped a shot from 20 yards out that hit off of the crossbar. The Jumbos had a scoring opportunity seven minutes later.
A through ball was sent to Liz Reed who got behind the defense, yet
Nicole DiPasquale came up with the big save to keep the Jumbos off the scoreboard. Only three minutes after that, the NJAC Goalkeeper of the Year registered another save to keep the game gridlocked at 0-0.
The hard fought match continued to be intense in the second half. TCNJ had a couple of shots in the 65
th minute.
Julianna Bertolino and
Lindsay O'Keefe both had good looks, but were denied by Tufts goalkeeper Hayley Bernstein made a pair of saves. The Jumbos broke through in the 72
nd minute with a Claire Wilkinson goal. Tufts added a second goal in the 83
rd minute from Sophie Lloyd.
Despite the loss, the Lions still had another outstanding season. The Lions were ranked inside of the top 10 the entire season, and the top five for the vast majority of the year. TCNJ captured its third straight New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship, and made its 29
th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
