Softball Slugs Way to Sweep Over Babson

LAKELAND, FL. – On day one of the Florida Sunkissed games, The College of New Jersey softball team took both games of the doubleheader against Babson College. The Lions were victorious 9-0 in game one and followed that up with a 12-1 win in the second game.

In game one TCNJ pushed over the first run in the second inning. Annalise Suitovsky ripped an RBI double to left field. The Lions would score in each inning after the first. In the third inning, Lauren Conroy delivered a big blow with a three run home run to right field to put TCNJ on top 4-0.

Elyse Nardozza ripped a homer to left field in the fourth to make it a 6-0 game. The home run was the first of Nardozza's career. The Lions continued the hot hitting in the fifth, when Jess McGuire drove one in with an RBI single. Gaby Bennett delivered the final blow with a two run triple in the sixth inning. Alanna Namit pitched a shutout, as she went the full six with only three hits allowed to earn the win.

The offensive efficiency carried over into game two, as the Lions put up three in the top of the first. Conroy drove in the first run with an RBI single, then McGuire knocked her in with a double down the left field line. McGuire scored on a passed ball to make it 3-0.

Nardozza continued to swing a hot bat as she made it a 4-0 ballgame with an RBI triple in the fourth inning. Bennett added two more with an RBI single. The Lions kept the pressure on and were able to push over two more in the inning to take an 8-0 advantage.

The Lions tallied 12 runs on the game, which proved to be more than enough for starting pitcher Eliza Sweet. She went the complete seven and allowed no earned runs on two hits. She racked up five strikeouts on the afternoon.

TCNJ will be back at it tomorrow, with a doubleheader against NYU beginning at 11:00 a.m.
