AMBLER, Pa. – Thomas Persichetti had four hits and came just a double shy of the cycle, but the No. 5/8 TCNJ baseball team lost at Arcadia, 14-6, on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference game. Arcadia scored 12 of its runs in the seventh and eighth innings.
Â
TCNJ (25-7) took a 2-0 lead with runs in each of its first two at-bats.
Jacob Simon singled home Persichetti in the first, and Persichetti delivered his second hit in as many innings when he singled home
Joe Oczkowski with a two-out base hit in the top of the second.
Â
Ahead 2-1 in the top of the fourth, Persichetti homered down the left-field line with two outs to push the Lions' lead back to 3-1. The home run is Persichetti's fourth of the season, tying Simon for the team lead in the category.
Â
Arcadia got that run back in the bottom of the fourth with a homer of its own, but TCNJ regained a two-run lead in the top of the fifth.
Ryan Fischer led off the inning with a single, and he later scored on
Chris Reeder's sacrifice fly to center. That gave TCNJ a 4-2 lead. Fischer was 2-for-3 with a walk.
Â
Arcadia (23-13) had six consecutive batters reach base in the bottom of the seventh inning, and four of those men came around to score. Phil Pierfy hit a two-run double to tie the game at 4-4, and Trevor Mattson followed later in the inning with a two-run single to give Arcadia its first lead of the game, 6-4.
Â
The Lions came right back in the top of the eighth, though, to tie the score.
Danny Borup singled with one out, and he scored on Persichetti's triple down the right-field line. Simon followed with a sacrifice fly to bring home Persichetti, knotting the score at 6-6. Borup has now reached base safely in all 32 games this season. Simon was 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs.
Â
Arcadia retook the lead with eight runs in the bottom of the eighth. The first seven hitters of the inning reached base, and six runs had crossed before the Lions recorded the first out of the frame.
Â
TCNJ starter
Joseph Felipe navigated through six innings while allowing just two runs. He struck out five but also walked five hitters.
Â
The Lions return to action with the final weekend of the NJAC regular season. TCNJ travels to Rutgers-Camden on Thursday to kick it off. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
