Conroy Records 100th Hit as No. 15 Softball Sweeps William Paterson

WAYNE, N.J. – The 15th ranked TCNJ softball team rounded out its regular season with a doubleheader sweep at William Paterson University on Saturday. The Lions prevailed 6-1 in game one and 11-3 in game two. TCNJ finished its regular season with a 30–6 record including 17-1 in NJAC play. The Lions have won a remarkable 28 of the last 30 games.

In the seventh inning of the second game, Lauren Conroy recorded her 100th career hit with an RBI double. Conroy has been a tremendous bat in the lineup for TCNJ, as she has hit a blistering .447 in 68 games for TCNJ over the course of her career. She has tallied seven homers and 95 RBIs on her career.

In game one, the Lions scored first in the third inning. Conroy drove in the opening run of the day with a base hit up the middle. William Paterson countered with a run in the third to tie the game.

Kaitlin Kocinski hit a home run to left field in the fourth inning to put TCNJ ahead 2-1. The homer was her sixth of the season.

Starting pitcher Alanna Namit held the Pioneer offense in check, and did not allow any runs after the third inning. An RBI single from Annalise Suitovsky made it a 3-1 game in the sixth. The next batter was Elyse Nardozza, who put TCNJ ahead 5-1 with a base hit. An infield hit from Allie Immerso drove in a run and stretched the lead to 6-1.

Namit earned the win to improve to 14-2 on the campaign. She racked up a new career-high of 15 strikeouts and only walked a pair.

William Paterson jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of game two. The Lions pushed over a run in the fourth, and six in the fifth to take a 7-3 lead.

Conroy got the rally going with an RBI double. A few batters later, Kocinski tied the game with a base hit. Camryn Davies singled to make it a 4-3 lead, then a Megan Mayernik double extended the lead to 6-3. Suitovsky slapped a base hit to the opposite field to put the Lions up by four. The Lions pushed across four insurance runs in the seventh to build the 11-3 lead.

Eliza Sweet got the win in the circle to improve to 13-3 on the season. She went the full seven and did not allow any runs after the first inning.

The Lions will open up the NJAC Tournament at home on Tuesday, April 30. After the first round game, the entire tournament will be played at TCNJ from May 3-5.
