No. 9 Softball Sees Season End vs. Arcadia

EWING, N.J. – The No. 9 TCNJ softball team saw its 2019 season come to end Saturday as it fell to Arcadia, 3-0, in an NCAA Regional contest at Dr. June Walker Field. The Lions wrapped up their season with a 33-8 record, their third 30-plus win season in the last four years.

Arcadia served as the home team in this elimination matchup, and the Knights tried to get on the board in the bottom of the first. With two runners on and just one out, Alanna Namit induced a fly out and a strikeout to end in the inning without a run crossing.

Arcadia broke through for a run in the third. A leadoff walk to Kristin Cancelliere was followed by a sacrifice bunt. After a second out, Hunter Schantz lined a ball off the center field fence to score Cancelliere from second base.

Gaby Bennett got the Lions' in business in the top of the fifth inning with a leadoff single. Annalise Suitovsky bunted her to second, and Camryn Davies' fly out to left moved Bennett to third. Megan Mayernik came inches away from a game-tying infield hit, but Arcadia shortstop Jackie Bilotti made a diving catch on the line drive to end the inning with Arcadia still clinging to the 1-0 lead.

Cancelliere led off the fifth inning with a single, and she was at third after Bilotti singled. Bilotti was thrown out on the bases, but Cancelliere scored on a throwing error later in the inning to make it 2-0. Arcadia capped the scoring with an Alexis Burge single to right to score Schantz, who walked.

Trailing 3-0, the Lions threatened in the top of the sixth. Allie Immerso singled with one out, and Lauren Conroy singled after two outs to bring the tying run to the plate. Jess McGuire put a good swing on a ball, but she lined it right to Bilotti at short to end the inning and TCNJ's best threat.

Namit struck out eight hitters in six innings while allowing just two earned runs.
