NEW YORK – The College of New Jersey wrestling team took eight of ten bouts Saturday afternoon defeating New York University 26-12. With the win, the 12
th-ranked Lions improve to 4-1 on the season, while the 15
th-ranked Violets drop to 1-1.

The Lions got off to a quick start as
Dan Ortega and
Jake Giordano each earned major decisions to put TCNJ up 8-0. At 141,
Robert Dinger earned a decision that stretched the lead to 11.

At 149,
Anthony Gagliano topped Evan Drill, the fourth-ranked wrestler in the country 7-3. The Violets countered with a pin at 157, closing the gap to 14-6.

John Garda picked up a decision victory at 165, but the Violets earned a pin at 174 to reduce the lead to 17-12. The Lions would not surrender another bout as
Daniel Surich,
Quinn Haddad, and
Thomas Marretta earned decision victories. Marretta provided the most exciting match of the day, earning a takedown in sudden victory to clinch the match.

The Lions return to action Friday when they travel to Lycoming College as the team looks to defend its championship at the annual Budd Whitehill Duals. Brackets for the dual tournament will be released in the upcoming week.
