HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – In a back and forth match that came down to the final bout, The College of New Jersey wrestling team outlasted Centenary University 21-16 Friday night. The sixth-ranked Lions won six bouts on the night to improve to 15-1 and extend their winning streak to 14 straight duals. The Cyclones dropped to 3-5 with the loss.

Ninth-ranked
Dan Ortega got TCNJ off to a quick start at 125, building up a 23-7 lead for his sixth-straight technical fall. The win improved Ortega's record on the season to 17-0. Third-ranked
Jake Giordano continued his strong season with a tight, 3-1, decision victory at 133, extending the team lead to 8-0.
Robert Dinger followed at 141, winning 19-5 to earn a major decision and push the TCNJ advantage to 12-0.

At 149, eighth-ranked Ryan Anderson answered for the Cyclones. The freshman won by major decision to start a run of three straight Centenary victories.

Holding a 12-10 lead, ninth-ranked
Dan Kilroy temporarily righted the ship at 174 for the Lions. Kilroy maintained control throughout the match to earn a 6-1 decision.

The Cyclones immediately answered getting a pin at 184 to take a 16-15 lead, their first of the dual.

Thomas Anderson earned the lead back for the Lions at 197 in a low-scoring 3-1 decision.

With the team win up for grabs in the heavyweight bout,
Thomas Marretta forced his opponent into a stalling call that was the difference in a 2-1 decision that secured the win for the Lions.

TCNJ has now won back-to-back matches over Centenary after snapping the Cyclones two-match series winning streak last year.

The Lions are back in action when they travel to the Messiah Open tomorrow afternoon. Action on the mats begins at noon.
