UNION, N.J. – The TCNJ men's soccer team conceded a 3-1 decision at Kean in the NJAC quarterfinals on Saturday.
Justin Dominique scored his team-high 12
th goal for the sixth-seeded Lions, whose season came to an end with an overall record of 8-10-1 and the program's first NJAC playoff appearance since 2016.
Third-seeded Kean (12-4-1) advanced to the semifinals to face No. 2 Rutgers-Newark.
After a cagey start to the rematch of last weekend's double-overtime thriller, the Cougars got on the board with the game's first shot on target as Erick Chicas found the back of the net in the 27
th minute.
Kean doubled its advantage about seven minutes later on a goal by Sadeiki Roberts, putting the Lions in a sizeable hole. With little going right, Dominique came through with a brilliant piece of individual play. The junior secured a pass from
Jake Gershon and burst through multiple defenders before sliding a low shot under Cougars keeper Dominic Ridge and into the twine to pull TCNJ within one with just 2:46 to go in the half.
With all to play for in the second half, the Lions were unable to find an equalizer before Raonne Dias put the match out of reach with a goal in the 69
th minute. Dominique put two more shots on frame, but Ridge was equal to both and Kean staved off TCNJ's charge.
Julian Franco made two saves for the Lions. Kean enjoyed a 15-5 advantage in shots and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
