MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The TCNJ baseball team fell to Montclair State, 21-5, in Friday NJAC action. TCNJ got off to a quick start, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning.
Jack Haynes led off the game with a double down the left-field line, and
Sebastian JnoBaptiste followed with a single to center to put Lions on the corners. Haynes scored on
Joe Oczkowski's RBI fielder's choice, and an error on Montclair State allowed Oczkowski to reach, as well.
Grant Sible singled home JnoBaptiste to make it 2-0, and the Lions were once again set up with runners at first an third. Oczkowski scored on
Ryan Goodall's infield single to make it 3-0, and
Avery Epstein singled two batters later to load the bases with just one out.
Aydon Chavis brought home a run with a fielder's choice, and
Nick Francisco capped the scoring with a two-out single up the middle to bring home Goodall to make it 5-0 TCNJ.
Montclair State responded with four runs in the first and four runs in the third to take an 8-5 lead. The big blow came with a nine-run fourth inning, and Montclair State gained those runs with four hits and the help of two TCNJ errors.
TCNJ returns home for an NJAC doubleheader on Saturday against Ramapo. First pitch of game one is set for 11:30 a.m.
