CHESTER, Pa. – The No. 2 TCNJ soccer team used a dominant 5-0 victory over Widener to improve to 5-0 on the season.
This week, TCNJ jumped to number two in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III rankings from the number nine spot in the preseason polls. The Lions proved their second ranking with another convincing victory. So far this year, TCNJ has outscored its opponents by an 18-0 margin.
Lindsay O'Keefe's goal in the 31
st minute got the Lions out in front. O'Keefe recorded her second score of the season from a
Gianna Minerva assist. Only four minutes later, another O'Keefe found the back of the net for the Lions, as
Allie O'Keefe scored her first career goal to double the Lions' lead.
The O'Keefe sisters continued to do damage, and
Allie O'Keefe struck again in the 41
st minute to give TCNJ a 3-0 lead at the end of the first half.
A quick pair of
Sophie Vieira goals early in the second half stretched the lead to 5-0. Vieira scored in the 51
st and 54
th minutes, and her second goal was set up by
Emma Pascarella. The sophomore now has three goals on the year which leads the team.
TCNJ controlled the pace of the game to grab an impressive 32-3 lead in shots. This season, the Lions are averaging a 27.6-3.4 lead in shots per game.
The Lions will return to action for the NJAC opener against Rutgers-Newark on Saturday. Game time in Lions Stadium is 1:00 p.m.
