NEWARK, N.J. – The TCNJ men's soccer team earned a tie at Rutgers-Newark on Saturday night thanks to a game-tying goal late in the second half.
With just 1:15 to play and Rutgers-Newark leading, 2-1, a low cross from
Sebastian Hernandez found its way through to
Aidan Grigorian. He found the back of the net to tie the score at 2-2.
TCNJ also opened the scoring with the only goal of the first half.
Nicholas Franco forced a turnover deep in Rutgers-Newark's end on an attempted play back to the keeper. He intercepted the pass and scored to give the Lions a 1-0 lead in the 15
th minute.
Rutgers-Newark tied the score in the 55
th minute, and it took the lead just 1:33 prior to Grigorian's goal. The 88
th minute goal for Rutgers-Newark looked like it would be the game-winning tally, but the Lions came right back and scored, though, in the 89
th minute to force overtime and the eventual draw.
TCNJ goalkeeper
Julian Franco made nine saves.
Colin Dwyer led the team with four shots.
The Lions return to action at Stevens on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
