Late Goal Pushes Men’s Soccer to Tie

NEWARK, N.J. – The TCNJ men's soccer team earned a tie at Rutgers-Newark on Saturday night thanks to a game-tying goal late in the second half.

With just 1:15 to play and Rutgers-Newark leading, 2-1, a low cross from Sebastian Hernandez found its way through to Aidan Grigorian. He found the back of the net to tie the score at 2-2.

TCNJ also opened the scoring with the only goal of the first half. Nicholas Franco forced a turnover deep in Rutgers-Newark's end on an attempted play back to the keeper. He intercepted the pass and scored to give the Lions a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute.

Rutgers-Newark tied the score in the 55th minute, and it took the lead just 1:33 prior to Grigorian's goal. The 88th minute goal for Rutgers-Newark looked like it would be the game-winning tally, but the Lions came right back and scored, though, in the 89th minute to force overtime and the eventual draw.

TCNJ goalkeeper Julian Franco made nine saves. Colin Dwyer led the team with four shots.

The Lions return to action at Stevens on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
