No. 1 Women’s Soccer Shuts Out William Paterson, 2-0

WAYNE, N.J. – The No. 1 TCNJ women's soccer team scored within the first five minutes of each half and didn't allow William Paterson a shot as the Lions topped the Pioneers, 2-0, on Saturday evening.

The Lions got the eventual game-winning goal in the fifth minute as Amelia Curtis scored on a penalty kick to give TCNJ a 1-0 advantage. TCNJ had seven shots in the first 20 minutes as the Lions were on their way to outshooting the Pioneers, 20-0, for the game.

Curtis' goal is her second of the season, making her one of nine TCNJ players to have multiple goals this year through just seven games.

One of the other members of that multi-goal group scored in the second half to make it 2-0. Gianna Coppola registered her third goal of the year, getting an assist from Sophie Vieira to double the TCNJ advantage. Coppola led the Lions with four shots and two shots on goal.

Not only did the Lions hold William Paterson without a shot, the Lions also blanked William Paterson in corner kicks, 7-0.

With the victory, the top-ranked Lions move to 7-0 overall while outscoring opponents, 24-0.

TCNJ will look to stay undefeated in NJAC play on Wednesday when the Lions host Rowan at Lions Stadium. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
