Men’s Soccer Topped by Elizabethtown, 2-1, in Season Opener

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The College of New Jersey men's soccer team returned to action for its first match in 675 days on Saturday. The Lions dropped a tightly-contested 2-1 battle to the Blue Jays.

After a scoreless first half, Elizabethtown got on the board first in the 71st minute. TCNJ responded with the equalizer only three minutes later in an action-packed flurry of events. Ryan Santos scored on a low left shot off of an assist from Justin Dominique. The goal marked Santos' fifth of his career, while Dominique's helper is the third of his career.

The quick scoring continued when the Blue Jays broke the tie 23 seconds later, making all three goals in the match come in less than a four-minute span. In the 83rd minute, Luke Pascarella sent in a shot that was denied by the Elizabethtown keeper. Aidan Grigorian had a look with just four seconds remaining but it sailed high and to the right.

In net for TCNJ was freshman Julian Franco making his first collegiate start. Franco recorded three saves on the afternoon.

Elizabethtown out-shot the Lions, 15-7, and also had a 9-3 edge in corner kicks.

TCNJ will return to action tomorrow to face Lebanon Valley for a 4:00 p.m. start.
