EWING, N.J. - The TCNJ men's soccer team won a tough defensive matchup on Wednesday evening against the Shoremen of Washington College by a score of 1-0.
Colin Kenville scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 62nd minute. After a great isolation move to his left, Kenville sent a chip shot that went over the outstretched arms of the goalie, off the post, and in. It was the lone shot on goal for TCNJ.Â
The goal marked Kenville's second of the season, both of which have been game-winners.
Despite losing the shots battle, 15-6, the Lions' defense anchored by goalkeeper Julian Franco was stout, only allowing five shots on goal. Franco hauled in all five of those shots on goal to secure his second solo shutout of the season.
The best chance for the Shoremen came in the 70th minute when a shot was sent from the left side approaching the top right corner of the net. Franco dove to his left and made a beautiful, fully extended save. Washington College also had a shot clang off the crossbar with just over five minutes remaining.Â
Wednesday's win brings the Lions back over the .500 mark with a record of 6-5-1.
TCNJ will be back in action this Saturday as the Lions take on the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers-Newark at noon.
