EWING, N.J. – Joey Cruciata led the TCNJ offense with three hits, but the Lions fell to No. 7 Rowan, 11-4, on Friday afternoon at George Ackerman Park.
Sebastian JnoBaptiste also had two hits, including a double.
Rowan scored in each of its first four at-bats, using numerous singles to create action on the bases. The Profs led, 8-0, after four innings. Rowan had two-run home runs from Chris Curcio in the second and Eric DiDomenico in the fourth inning. The second of those gave the Profs an 8-0 lead.
The Lions made a few pushes. JnoBaptiste, Cruciata and Lagravenis singled consecutively with one out in the fifth inning, but the Lions couldn't push a run across.
That changed in the seventh. Trailing 10-0, the Lions chased Rowan starter Eli Atiya from the game with a four-run frame.
Andrew Fernandez led off with a walk, and he went to third on JnoBaptiste's double off the wall in left. Cruciata followed with one of his three singles to score Fernandez. That ended Atiya's day, but not the TCNJ offensive attack in the inning.
Lagravenis and
Zach Weiner both walked, forcing in the Lions' second run.
Chris Reeder brought home Cruciata with a fielder's choice, and
Ryan Goodall followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Lagravenis. That made it 10-4.
Michael Silver pitched effectively in relief, going 2.1 innings without allowing a run. He gave up just two hits. Lagravenis reached three times with a single and a pair of walks.
TCNJ returns to NJAC action on Saturday when they travel to Montclair State for a doubleheader starting at 11:30 a.m.
