Lions Shut Out Rutgers-Camden, 7-0

CAMDEN, N.J. – The TCNJ baseball team won its third straight game and its sixth of its past seven with a 7-0 blanking of Rutgers-Camden on Friday. Jackson Malouf allowed two hits in seven innings, and Joey Cruciata went 3-for-3 with four RBIs.

Malouf struck out five and walked three while allowing just one Camden runner to get as far as second base. That came in the sixth inning when Francisco Andino singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. He made it to third with two outs, but Malouf retired the side on a comebacker to the mound.

Cruciata scored the first run of the game in the third when he singled and made it to third on an error. He later scored on a wild pitch.  He drove home the next two runs in the fifth on a single to center. That plated both Justin Marcario and Andrew Fernandez. Both of those players reached via single and were moved into scoring position on a Michael Schumacher sacrifice bunt.

Joe Oczkowski doubled to help set up the Lions with the bases loaded in the sixth. Schumacher followed with an infield single to score Ryan Goodall to make it 4-0, and Cruciata again came through with a two-run single to plate both Fernandez and Schumacher. Oczkowski also scored in the inning on a wild pitch.

Michael Silver pitched the final two innings for the Lions without allowing a hit. Oczkowski was 2-for-4. Chris Reeder had a double in four trips to the plate.

Cruciata is crushing the ball in NJAC competition. He leads the team with a .395 batting average with a .995 OPS. He's 21-for-53 in his 15 NJAC games with two doubles, three triples and 15 RBIs. All-NJAC teams are selected based on conference-only statistics.

TCNJ concludes the regular season Saturday with an 11:30 a.m. doubleheader at Ramapo.
