IMMACULATA, Pa. – The TCNJ baseball team won its fifth straight game in its first true road game of the season, defeating Immaculata, 9-5, on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.
Mike Lagravenis reached base five times with four hits and a walk.
Chris Cote went 3-for-5. Both players had two RBIs.
TCNJ scored three times in the top of the first. Cote doubled home Lagravenis to make it 1-0.
Joe Oczkowski singled home
Chris Reeder for the second run, and Cote scored on a
Justin Marcario fielder's choice.
Immaculata scored one in the bottom of the fourth, but the Lions added on through the middle frames to take an 8-1 lead. Two of those runs came after two outs in the fifth.
Jack Haynes singled, and he came around to score on Reeder's double to right. Cote followed with a run-scoring single to plate Reeder to make it 5-1. Reeder was 2-for-5 with three runs scored. Oczkowski and Marcario were both also 2-for-5.
Lagravenis got one of his RBIs in the sixth. He singled home Marcario, who led off the inning with a double down the left field line. Ahead 6-1, the Lions added two more in the top of the seventh. Reeder, Cote and Oczkowski had all singled to start the inning, and some shoddy defense allowed the first two to score unearned runs. That made it 8-1.
TCNJ starter
Matthew Crawford had a strong outing. He went seven full frames, allowing just one unearned run on four hits. He struck out four and walked a pair.
After Crawford's departure, Immaculata inched back into the game with three runs in the bottom of the eighth to make it 8-4, but the Lions got one of those back with a Lagravenis RBI single in the ninth to score
Sebastian JnoBaptiste.
The Lions will take their winning streak into a home date with William Paterson on Thursday at George Ackerman Park to open a home-and-home NJAC series. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
