EWING, N.J. – The No. 16 TCNJ women's soccer team entered Wednesday night's NJAC game with Kean ranked third in the nation in total offense, averaging 4.6 goals per game. In the first half against the Cougars at Lions Stadium, TCNJ flirted with topping that total. The Lions scored four times in the first half on their way to a 5-0 victory.
The first two goals came so quickly that several fans with hot dogs and pizza from the concession stand hadn't yet found their seats.
Lindsay O'Keefe scored her eighth goal of the season in the third minute off a corner kick and a loose ball that pinged off of several players. O'Keefe took the ball off a bounce inside the six-yard box and went high over Kean keeper Abigail Wing.
A minute later, the Lions scored again off of a corner. Emma Pascaralla's corner kick sliced through the crowded box and found Ava Curtis. She beat Wing to give the Lions a 2-0 advantage less than four minutes into play.
The Lions scored again in the 15th minute off of a corner kick. Another bouncing ball inside the six-yard box found its way to Sophie Vieira, and her sneaky spinning shot found the back of the net to make it 3-0.
O'Keefe's early goal tied her with Pascarella for the team lead with eight goals, but that tie didn't survive the half. Pascarella netted her ninth of the season in the 27th minute on a neat individual play. She took on a Kean defender and beat her to the middle of the field. Once she found an opening, she ripped a shot from 30 yards out that beat Wing cleanly to the top left corner.
The Lions got their fifth goal in the second half on a nice connection. Gianna Coppola found Victoria D'Imperio on the right side, and she one-touched a ball to Pascarella ahead. Pascarella completed the give-and-go with D'Imperio by feeding her a playable ball that she smoked from 12 yards out. That made it 5-0 in the 65th minute.
After putting up 45 shots on Saturday, the Lions one-upped that mark with 46 on Wednesday. That ties the highest mark in the last five years for the program. The Lions had 46 against Kean on Oct. 21, 2017.
TCNJ returns to action with another home NJAC game on Saturday. The Lions host William Paterson at noon at Lions Stadium.
