CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The TCNJ men's soccer team suffered its third consecutive one-goal loss as
David Anderson's goal with just over three minutes remaining proved too little and too late in a 2-1 setback at Washington College on Wednesday afternoon.
Anderson notched his first goal of the season for the Lions (3-8-1), who wrapped up non-conference play with a resilient showing against a Washington College squad that is unbeaten in 2023 (6-0-5) and extended its regular-season unbeaten streak to 18 matches.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a relatively quiet opening half hour, the Shoremen broke the deadlock with 10 minutes remaining in the first half as Alex Coster took a long pass down the right sideline and sent a chip shot into the top right corner of the net, just past the reach of a diving Logan Gebhart between the pipes
- Tucker Sprano doubled the Shoremen lead just three minutes out of halftime
- TCNJ made its last stand in the late stages, as Anderson took a pass from Mike Garofalo and dribbled down the left side before firing a shot into the back of the net with 3:02 left in regulation
- Hunting an equalizer, the Lions were unable to register a shot or corner kick in the remaining time
NOTES
- Gebhart, Ray Frost, Matias Hornos, Will Roche, Lucas Sample, and Sean Wood all made their first career starts for the Lions
- Gebhart finished with one save before being lifted at halftime for Walker Smith, who made one save in the second half
- Garofalo's assist was his second of the season
- Five of the Lions' eight losses this season have been by a single goal
