Women's Soccer Shuts Out JWU Provdence in NCAA Opening Round

EWING, N.J.- The TCNJ women's soccer team earned a commanding win in the first round of the NCAA Tournament over JWU Providence by a score of 3-0.

Victoria D'Imperio paced TCNJ (16-2-1) past the Wildcats (18-3-3) as she had a hand in all three goals, scoring two and assisting on the other.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lions struck first in the 17th minute after Ava Garay nearly put the Lions ahead on a shot in front of the net. The save from JWU Providence went out the back line and TCNJ set up for a corner. Rachel Burkhard sent in an in-swinger towards the back post for D'Imperio, who headed it past the Wildcat keeper to break the scoreless stalemate
  • The best chance of the first half for JWU Providence came on their only shot from the top of the box that Bella Norman saved.
  • The Lions came out of the break firing, scoring just over five minutes into the second on another set piece. An entry pass from Allie O'Keefe was headed by D'Imperio and shot on a one-timer from Lindsay O'Keefe into the back of the net.
  • D'Imperio closed out the scoring for the game with a shot past a diving keeper on a pass into the box from Ava Curtis in the 57th minute. The Lions defense remained strong and held on to seal the shutout.
NOTES
  • D'Imperio netted her 19th and 20th goals of the season, making her the third Lion in TCNJ history to meet this mark. Her assist today is also her seventh of the season. She is two goals away from the single-season goal record of 22 and a singular point from tying the single-season points record of 48.
  • The shutout was the 7th on the year for Norman and the 11th on the season for the Lions.
  • Lindsay O'Keefe scored her ninth goal of the season and the 31st of her career
  • The double assist for Allie O'Keefe and Curtis was the third of the year for O'Keefe and the sixth for Curtis.
