2/4/2023 6:43:00 PM

HOBOKEN, N.J.- The TCNJ wrestling team had a great challenge ahead of them Saturday at the Stevens Tri-Meet featuring the Ducks of Stevens and the Cougars of Averett. The Lions won the first match without losing a single bout, besting the Cougars by a score of 46-0. The matchup with the ducks proved to be a little more difficult, with Stevens coming out on top 25-19.

The Lions rattled of their first four wins in the match with none of them by decision. Ryan Rosenthal and Kyle Nase each won by technical fall, followed by a Larry Melchionda Major Decision win.  Mike Conklin got back into the dual match groove with a pin over Hai Siu which Matt and Nick Sacco followed with decision wins of their own. Reid Colella kept the dominance rolling with a pin of Michael Gabbard. Senior Quinn Haddad followed Colella with a technical fall win. Joe Daddario got his 10th win of the season with a pin over Jaleel Jones. Peter Wersinger continued to prove why he is the second-best heavyweight in the region with a 7-2 decision win over Jamar Christian.

After picking up a shutout win, the Lions could not keep up the pace against a top-15 team in Stevens. After dropping the first match at 125, Nase improved to 2-0 on the afternoon at 133 lbs. with a 9-6 decision win over Nico Diaz. Following a loss by pin-fall at 141, the Lions fought back with three straight decision wins coming from Mike Conklin, Matt Sacco and Nick Sacco.  TCNJ suffered losses in three of the next four matches to follow, with Daddario being the only Lion out of those four to win.
