WINTER HAVEN, FL.- The TCNJ baseball team started their spring trip in Florida off strong with an 8-2 victory over Southern Maine on Saturday. Behind some stellar pitching, the Lions were able to capitalize with runners in scoring position on their way to win number two.
Â
Ben Amon started the game for the Lions and picked up exactly where he left off against Salisbury. Amon went six innings with two earned runs and eight hits while also striking out eight.
Â
TCNJ got the scoring going early as they tacked on two in the first.
Andrew Fernandez singled down the left field line, scoring
Zach Weiner who doubled to start the inning. Two batters later,
Justin Marcario singled to right field which scored
Chris Reeder, who reached first by error.
Â
In the very next inning, the Lions added three more runs to their current 2-0 lead.
Sebastian JnoBaptiste plated a run early in the inning after a passed ball and a balk. With runners on second and third with one out, Reeder poked a single out to right field, scoring
Mike Lagravenis and
Jack Haynes.
Â
TCNJ put up two more runs in the fourth after the Lions were given some free bases via walks and hit-by-pitches. In the eighth, the Lions plated their eighth run on a passed ball and held the Huskies scoreless after the fourth to earn the 8-2 win.
Â
For the last three innings, Amon handed the reigns over to
John DiCostanzo to close out the game. DiCostanzo did just that with some style, allowing two hits and no runs while fanning seven in the process and earning the three-inning save.
Â
TCNJ baseball is back on the diamond tomorrow as they take on Benedictine University at 2:00 PM.
