AUBURNDALE, FL.- The TCNJ baseball team picked up their fifth win of 2023 on Thursday with a 9-3 victory over North Park University. The Lions plated their nine runs on just six hits but did a great job forcing walks throughout the game.
Â
Holding it down yet again on the mound for TCNJ was senior right-hander
Ben Amon. Amon was sensational on Thursday, pitching eight scoreless innings with seven strikeouts while only allowing two hits. Throughout the first eight innings, only three runners entered scoring position as Amon was quick to shut the door on the Vikings.
Â
The Lions got things started early via a
Jack Felipe single into right field with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the first. The hit would score both
Zach Weiner and Mike LaGravenis to give TCNJ a quick 2-0 lead.
Â
In the third,
Michael Schumacher scored
Chris Reeder on a sacrifice fly to center field. Reeder reached base from a walk and got into scoring position after another walk and a passed ball.
Â
In the sixth the Lions would tack on three more runs of support for Amon.
Jack Haynes and LaGravenis started the inning off with a walk and a hit-by-pitch. A passed ball awarded them each second and third with no outs. Weiner took full advantage of this, smoking a double to left field and scoring the two baserunners. Two batters later, Reeder hit an RBI double of his own, scoring Weiner and bringing the lead to 6-0.
Â
In the bottom half of the eighth, TCNJ scored three more runs just before sealing the deal in the top of the ninth. All three of those runs came off one swing of the bat from
Justin Marcario with a bases clearing double, scoring Reeder, Goodall and LaGravenis.
Â
North Park broke up the shutout in the ninth with three runs on three hits.
Â
Leading the Lions for the day at the plate was Marcario and Weiner with four hits and five RBI's between the two. LaGravenis also scored three times on the day.
Â
TCNJ baseball will face off against Muhlenberg College on Friday morning for a 7-inning double header starting at 9:30 AM.
