Baseball Falls to Haverford 12-6

HAVERFORD, PA.- The TCNJ baseball team fell on the road to the Fords of Haverford College on Thursday by a score of 12-6.

The Lions fell behind early on Thursday with the Fords taking a 10-0 lead on seven hits after three innings.

The third hit of the day would put the first two runs on the board for TCNJ as Andrew Fernandez sent a two-run shot soaring over the left field fence. Jack Felipe l got the inning started with a single up the middle and scored one the homerun. Freshman Jack O'Donnell followed this up with a single up the middle for his first collegiate hit in the fourth.

Freshman Jack Tinkelenberg came in and was able to minimize the damage for four innings of relief. In his outing, he gave up two earned runs on three hits and no walks.

From the bottom half of the sixth to the top of the eighth, the Lions and Fords traded runs back and forth with TCNJ scoring four out of those six to cut the deficit to 12-6. The Lions scoring plays include three RBI singles coming from Zach Weiner in the sixth, scoring Felipe and an RBI single in the seventh from Chris Reeder and Justin Marcario. Andrew Fernandez had his third RBI in the top of the eighth after advancing to first on an error.

Jack Haynes, Ryan Goodall and Reeder were the runners to cross home in the eighth.

In the home half of the eighth, Michael Silver came in and pitched a scoreless frame with one hit and one strikeout.

The Lions had plenty of opportunities to cut into the lead and put some pressure on Haverford, who hadn't done serious damage at the plate since the third inning. However, TCNJ could not capitalize as they left a total of 17 runners on base and went 1-7 as a team with the bases loaded.

TCNJ didn't go down without a fight as they had bases loaded in the top half of the ninth but could not cut into the Haverford lead as they held on for the 12-6 win.

Marcario and Reeder each had three hits on the day with an RBI and a run each. O'Donnell in his second game had two hits and Fernandez led the team with his two RBIs.

TCNJ baseball has two days off back in New Jersey before the Pennsylvania road trip continues to Carlisle as the Lions take on the Red Devils of Dickinson College on Sunday in a double header starting at 11:30 AM.
