Reeder Surpasses 100 Hits in Split with NJCU

JERSEY CITY, N.J.- The TCNJ baseball team worked a split with NJCU on Sunday, losing the first game 9-2 and winning the second 15-0.

GAME 1- NJCU 9, TCNJ 2:

The Lions struck first in game one early with a Chris Reeder RBI single to left field that scored Ryan Goodall. Goodall got the inning started with a one-out double.

The Lions would not put another run on the scoreboard until the ninth inning as NJCU starting pitcher Dom Yarson went the distance in game one.

The Gothic Knights took the lead in the bottom half of the third with two runs on two hits and one error.

TCNJ had a golden opportunity to potentially retake the lead in the fourth, with runners on second and third with one out. Unfortunately, the Lions were not able to capitalize with a ground out to third followed by a strikeout.

NJCU put up another run in the fifth, one in the sixth and five runs in the seventh on a total of nine hits and one error.

With two outs in the seventh inning, Matt Santos came in for an inning and a third of relief. He gave up no runs on two hits, one strikeout and no walks.

A Zach Weiner single in the ninth scored Andrew Fernandez, but the Lions could not find a late rally as NJCU took game one.

GAME 2- TCNJ 15, NJCU 0

In game two, the Lions took out everything from the game one loss out on NJCU. Once again, TCNJ scored first in the top of the first. Chris Reeder got the inning going with a single through the right side and Justin Marcario kept it up with a double to right field. Freshman Michael Doran singled after the double to score Reeder and give TCNJ the lead.

The pitching for the Lions in game two was stellar. Sophomore southpaw Jackson Malouf shut down the Gothic Knights in game two, pitching seven scoreless innings while giving up five hits, striking out seven and walking four. He then handed it over to Ethan Earley for the last two as he retired the side in the eighth and the ninth with one strikeout.

The bats went a little cold until the fifth inning when the offense showed up big time. In the fifth, the Lions scored four runs on two hits and two errors. Three out of the four runs came on one swing of the bat from Reeder as he cleared the bases with a three RBI double to right center field. Jack O'Donnell, Sebastian JnoBaptiste and Ryan Goodall all crossed home on the double. A sacrifice fly from Marcario scored Reeder and brought the TCNJ lead to five.

TCNJ piled on three more in the sixth inning on three hits to bring their lead to eight. The first run came with some celebration as Chris Reeder recorded his 100th career hit on an RBI single to left field which scored O'Donnell.  Sophomore Zack Bowman knocked in the next two with a two RBI single to right center field which scored Reeder and Goodall.

The Lions were far from finished as they put up seven more runs in the top of the eighth on five hits and two errors all with two outs. JnoBaptiste started the scoring in the rally with a two RBI double which scored Weiner and Doran. O'Donnell hit a double of his own the very next batter which scored JnoBaptiste. Reeder and Goodall poked back-to-back singles after O'Donnell to score O'Donnell.  A Michael Doran single scored two more and a throwing error cleared the bases and brought a third run home to make the lead 15-0.

The Lions once again held out the Gothic Knights in the ninth to seal the win.

TCNJ baseball is back home at George Ackerman park on Tuesday as they will face off against Immaculata with the first pitch to be thrown at 3:30.
