Ospreys Top Baseball 8-7

GALLOWAY, N.J.- The TCNJ baseball team lost to Stockton on Friday by a score of 8-7 in a back-and-forth NJAC showdown. After Thursday night's dramatics, it would only be expected for another close game to be played on Friday.

TCNJ jumped out to an early lead in this one, scoring three runs in the top half of the first on two hits and two errors. Andrew Fernandez reached safely on an error by the shortstop, scoring Ryan Goodall and Justin Marcario. Sebastian JnoBaptiste took advantage of the extended inning, stroking a single to left and scoring Chris Reeder.

Stockton took one back in the bottom of the first on two hits and one error in the field to bring the TCNJ lead to 3-1.

As the Lions bats went cold over the next five innings, the Ospreys crawled right back into the game. They scored one in the fourth, took the lead scoring two in the fifth and extended their lead with one more in the sixth. Before the Lions came back up, Stockton had a 5-3 lead.

TCNJ came roaring back in a big way in the top of the seventh, scoring four runs on three hits and two errors to take a 7-5 lead. A Chris Reeder sacrifice fly got the rally going which scored Mike LaGravenis. Fernandez and Zach Hochheiser followed this up with singles up the middle, scoring Goodall, Marcario and Fernandez.

Stockton knotted the game back up at seven apiece in the bottom half of the seventh, scoring two runs on three hits.

As both teams went scoreless in the eighth, Stockton put the Lions bullpen in a serious jam in the ninth with the bases loaded and no outs. After getting the first out, an error in the field scored the game winning run for the Ospreys.

Despite the loss, Justin Marcario was nearly perfect at the plate today going 4-for-5 with two runs scored.

The TCNJ baseball team looks to keep the competitive fire as they head to Union on Saturday to take on the top-ranked team in the NJAC, Kean University with the first pitch scheduled for 11:30 AM.
