CHAMPS, AGAIN! Women’s Tennis Wins 40th Consecutive NJAC Crown

EWING, N.J. – For the 40th-consecutive season, the TCNJ women's tennis team were crowned NJAC Champions after a one-sided 5-0 victory over NJCU on Saturday.

With the victory, the Lions adds on to what is the longest known conference title streak in the nation, at any level and for any sport. The blue and gold also officially clinches their spot for the NCAA Tournament.

TCNJ started off the title match by sweeping doubles play in dominant fashion. No. 1 Doubles saw the senior duo of Charlotte Roarty and Jenny Landell held off the Gothic Knight's Giada Zorzan and Eliza Clamor in a nail-biting 7-3 tiebreaker victory. After trailing 3-6 and then facing match point down 4-7, the Lions duo would save two match points before forcing the tiebreaker.

No. 2 and No. 3 doubles proved to be less stressful, as the duos of Alexa Vasile/Chase Eisenberg and Aira Abalos/Anusha Rangu conceded just a combined three games to round out the sweep.

In singles, Abalos dominated at the No. 2 spot by conceding just three total games. She beat NJCU's Clamor 6-2 in set one and then 6-1 in set two.

Roarty clinched the match at No. 1 singles after besting Zorzan in two sets. The three-time NJAC Player of the Year won her first set 6-4, before closing things out with a 6-2 second set edge.

The Lions will now await their first round matchup on Monday when the NCAA Selection Show takes place.
