Amon Goes the Distance in Big Win Over Rutgers-Camden

CAMDEN, N.J.- The TCNJ baseball team came up with a huge win and brought themselves one step closer to the NJAC tournament on Monday afternoon, forcing a split with the Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers-Camden after a 6-3 victory.

Ben Amon was outstanding on Monday, going the distance for the Lions and keeping the bullpen fresh for the two games on Tuesday. The Scarlet Raptors did not crack the scoreboard until the seventh inning as Amon struck out six and allowed seven hits with no walks on the day. The complete game marks the third in Amon's career as a Lion.

Just like they have all season, the Lions struck first in the first with a run on two hits to take an early lead in a big conference matchup. A Ryan Goodall sacrifice fly scored Justin Marcario, who led the inning off with a single up the middle to put TCNJ ahead.

Continuing with Amon's dominance on the mound, Rutgers-Camden didn't have a hit or a baserunner until the fifth inning, as Amon was perect through the first four. In the fifth inning, they had two hits but couldn't find an answer to score on Amon.

In the bottom of the fifth, posted a crooked number with a five-run inning on five hits to take the lead 6-0. Goodall knocked his second RBI of the game to plate Mike LaGravenis. After another out, the Lions exploded for a four-run two-out rally starting with a Jack Felipe double to right center, scoring Chris Reeder and Marcario. Sebastian JnoBaptiste followed this up with an RBI double of his own, scoring Felipe. Just when you thought they were done, Zach Weiner smoked a ball to left field, picking up three bases with an RBI triple to score JnoBaptiste and gain a 6-0 advantage.

The Scarlet Raptors plated their first runs of the game in the seventh, cutting the lead in half with three runs on four hits and an error. After this, Amon settled back in for the last two innings to secure the 6-3 win.

Five Lions had multi-hit days to lead the way to victory. LaGravenis, Reeder, Felipe and JnoBaptiste had two hits while Weiner led the team in hits on the day with three.

TCNJ Baseball heads into the biggest games of the season on Tuesday Morning as they host Ramapo College for a doubleheader starting at 11:30 AM. With a win in the doubleheader tomorrow, the Lions will clinch a spot in the NJAC tournament.
