Men's Soccer Falls in Matchup with Stevens

HOBOKEN, N.J. –  The TCNJ men's soccer team lost on the road Saturday by a score of 3-0 in a matchup against the Stevens Ducks.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Ducks stuck first in the fifteenth minute on a shot that just got over the outstretched arms of Julian Franco, off the crossbar and into the back of the net.
  • TCNJ found a solid chance after Chris Meder got tripped up outside the box. A Colin Kenville cross on the free kick was a bit too high for any Lions to head in.
  • The Lions got their best chance of the half on a Gavin Siengsanaoh low running shot towards the bottom right corner before being saved by the diving goaltender.
  • Just two minutes after this chance, in the 41st, Stevens brought their lead to two just before the half. After a fight for possession in their offensive third, a stevens player secured it and sent a shot into to the bottom left corner of the net.
  • In the 68th minute, the Ducks brought the lead to 3-0 on a play to the left side where Franco tried to rush the Stevens player in the top left corner of the box. He was able to poke one past him and into the back of the net.
  • TCNJ found their best chance of the second half with a low shot from J.J. Zaun that was saved by the Stevens Goalkeeper.
NOTES:
  • Franco inched closer to 7th on the all-time saves list with eight saves tonight. That brings his career total to 188 saves and ten away from 7th.
  • This is the fourth matchup in the first seven games for the Lions (2-4-1) against an opponent that qualified for NCAA's a season ago. Stevens (3-1-1) had a great run in 2022 all the way to the final four.
  • Sebastian Hernandez, Massimo Rodio and Meder led the Lions in shots on Saturday with a pair each. Sam Snyder, Joseph Lucignano, Zaun and Siengsanaoh took a shot for TCNJ as well.
UP NEXT:
  • TCNJ comes to play on their home turf for the first time this season on Wednesday, September 20th with a matchup against the Engineers of RPI at 4:00 PM.
