EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ men's soccer team wrapped up its season with a 4-0 loss at the hands of first-place Rowan in NJAC action on Wednesday night.
With the win, the 12
th-ranked Profs (10-4-5, 7-0-2) secured the top seed and home-field advantage in the NJAC Tournament. The Lions (2-12-5, 2-5-2) saw their faint playoff hopes come to an end.
TCNJ survived a few scares but managed to get into the final 10 minutes of the first half locked in a scoreless stalemate. That changed with 6:55 remaining in the period, when Joey Kurak curled a shot into the bottom right corner of the net and just past the diving stretch of TCNJ keeper
Colin Rentner.
Rowan appeared set to take that one-goal lead into the break, but managed to add on a critical second in the dying seconds. Johnny Troiano ripped a left-footed shot from 35 yards out, which Rentner managed to back-pedal and punch onto the bar, but Kurak was there to volley home the rebound to make it 2-0 with 2.4 ticks showing.
The Profs tacked on a third with 15:13 to go as Kurak set up Troiano for an easy finish in front of the six-yard box. Troiano capped his two-goal, two-assist night with a second marker with 5:35 remaining.
