EWING, N.J. – Cassidy DiSabato and
Victoria D'Imperio scored first-half goals and the top-seeded TCNJ women's soccer team cruised into the NJAC championship game with a convincing 2-0 win over New Jersey City on Wednesday night.
The Lions (16-0-2) stayed unbeaten and will host the conference final against third-seeded Montclair State – a 2-1 overtime winner at second-seeded Rowan on Wednesday night – at noon on Saturday.
DiSabato got the scoring started in the 16
th minute, finishing a cross from
Alyssa Alfano after
Allie O'Keefe's looping header sprung Alfano free down the right side of the box.
D'Imperio doubled the spread with 1:20 to go in the first half, taking a pass from
Caroline Freer and maneuvering her way to a right-footed shot from just outside the box that screamed into the bottom right corner of the net. The goal was the 50
th of her career, making her the fourth player in program history to reach that milestone.
The Lions came close to scoring several times in the second half, but were unable to get a third past all-conference goalie Sophia Mannino. Thanks to a defense that allowed just three shots, it hardly mattered, and TCNJ will go for back-to-back conference crowns at the weekend.
