Wrestling Cruises Past McDaniel, Muhlenberg

EWING, N.J. – The No. 11 TCNJ wrestling team made it three wins in a span of less than 24 hours with a pair of convincing triumphs over Centennial Conference squads in a tri-match at the Rec Center on Saturday.
 
Heavyweight Matt Coon pinned both of his opponents for the Lions, who downed McDaniel by a count of 43-6 before shutting out Muhlenberg, 49-0.
 
TCNJ 43, McDaniel 6
McDaniel got on the board first with a hard-fought 9-7 decision at 125, but it was all TCNJ after that.
 
Kyle Nase pinned Romeo Tsai at 133 to give the Lions the upper hand for good. Sam Kotch and Mayson Harms followed with successive tech falls at 141 and 149, respectively, before the Green Terror grabbed their last points of the match with a 5-2 decision at 157.
 
Nick Sacco scored a 17-0 tech fall in less than a period at 165, and James Romaine handled his foe by a 16-4 major decision at 174.
 
After a forfeit at 184, D.J. Henry won by injury default at 197, and Coon capped the dual with a second-period pin of Kaden Bryan at heavyweight.
 
TCNJ 49, Muhlenberg 0
Griffin won by forfeit at 125 before a span of three tech falls in the next four bouts.
 
Nase defeated Max Rotter, 17-2, in the first period at 133. After Kotch's 9-4 victory over Andrew Loniewski at 141, Mike Conklin scored a 17-1 tech fall over Alex Greco at 149. J.J. Giordano followed with one of his own, 17-2, late in the second period opposite Charles Levine at 157.
 
Sacco needed just over 90 seconds to pin Chris Sockler at 165, and Hunter Mays blanked Aiden Wiengrad, 17-0, before the end of the second period at 174. Strashinsky then edged Fletcher Goodman, 5-2, at 184.
 
Henry handled Noah Schlofer, 18-2, at 197, and Coon polished off the proceedings with his second pin of the day, this time late in the second stanza versus Paul Parise.
 
The Lions head to the Midwest next week for a showdown with No. 3 Wisconsin-LaCrosse on Thursday before an appearance at the Augsburg Invitational on Saturday.
