EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ men's tennis team knocked off Division I Lafayette in its spring opener for the second straight season, handing the Leopards a 5-2 defeat at Courtside Racquet Club on Sunday night.

DOUBLES

• Aayush Kishore and Dorian Makarski kicked off the proceedings with a 6-0 blanking at No. 2 doubles
• Matthew Michibata and Harrison Maitland-Carter downed Arman Ganchi and William Woolley, 6-2, at No. 1
• With the doubles point already secured, Brett Schuster and Alberto Thomas were edged out by Sam Gelber and Derrin Lerner, 7-5, at No. 3

SINGLES

• Maitland-Carter handled Lerner 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5
• Schuster picked up a convincing 6-1, 6-3 victory over Woolley at No. 6
• Thomas (No. 4) and Adrian Tsui (No. 2) each came up on the short end of a third-set super tiebreak, though both rallied from a set down to force the decisive breaker
• With Lafayette back within 3-2, Michibata clinched it with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Ganchi, who defeated him in a third-set breaker a year ago
• Kishore took down Magnusson by the same score line at No. 3

NOTES

• Michibata moved into a tie with Corey Ball '07 for 5^th on the program's all-time list with his 64^th career singles victory
• Michibata now owns 138 career wins at TCNJ, three shy of Marc Hill '03 in third and six shy of all-time co-leaders Michael Klimchak '08 and Robert Howland '02
• TCNJ is 5-0 all-time against Lafayette, and has defeated the Leopards three seasons in a row
