EWING, N.J.- The TCNJ wrestling team lost a hard-fought Top-15 matchup on Friday night to Stevens Institute of Technology by a final score of 26-11. The Lions (11-5) had their work cut out for them as the Ducks (11-4) have five nationally ranked wrestlers compared to TCNJ's two.
Nick Sacco (165) started the night off on the right foot for the Blue & Gold, picking up a decisive 4-1 decision win over Chris Stathopoulos. Sacco continues to prove his dominance in the division as the dual win on Friday brings him to a perfect 15-0 in duals this season.
Following two majors and a decision loss,
Peter Wersinger (285) got TCNJ right back on track with a major decision win by a score of 11-1 over Maximo Ruiz. The top heavyweight wrestler in the Mideast also recently broke into the top-5 for all time pins at TCNJ with 35 for his career.
After a loss at 125,
Kyle Nase (133) went down to the wire with No. 10 Luke Hoerle but unfortunately failed to come up with the win, falling 5-4.
Mike Conklin picked up the third and final winning bout for the Lions with a dominant 11-3 win against Carmen Cortese.
Stevens took wins at 141 and 157 by decision and fall respectively to close out the 26-11 win.
