Late Rally Drives Baseball Past Southern Maine

AUBURNDALE, FL.- The TCNJ baseball won their third straight game on Monday with an 11-6 victory against Southern Maine. The Lions (3-0) went the first six innings scoreless before exploding for a late rally in the seventh for the comeback win over the Huskies (1-6).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Southern Maine jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with two hits and got some help from the Lions on a fielding error.
    • Starter Ben Amon settled in after this, going the next five frames without allowing a run.
  • The Huskies tacked on one more in the top of the seventh before TCNJ piled on six runs on six hits in the home half.
    • Michael Schumacher started off the inning with a single to left and advanced to second on a balk. Jack Haynes followed this with his 100th career hit, moving Schumacher to third.
    • A Zach Weiner sac-fly to center scored Schumacher. Mike LaGravenis drove in Haynes on a single up the middle and moved Jack O'Donnell to third.
    • The hit parade continued with Justin Marcario as he knocked O'Donnell in with a single through the left side. He passed the torch to Ryan Goodall who also singled through the left side to score LaGravenis.
    • After a walk, Schumacher picked up his second hit of the inning, driving in both Marcario and Goodall to bring TCNJ ahead 6-3.
  • The Huskies tied things back up in the eighth with three runs on four hits. Amon handed over pitching duties to RHP Joe Ferreri, who went 1-2-3 with two strikeouts to get the Lions out of a serious jam.
  • TCNJ had all the momentum at the plate and let it show as they scored five more runs in the eighth on two hits and two errors from Southern Maine.
    • After a hit-by-pitch and two errors, a bases loaded balk scored O'Donnell and moved Chris Reeder and Marcario over. Goodall built off this, driving in them both on a single up the middle.
    • Goodall crossed home on a dropped third strike and Zach Weiner drove in Andrew Fernandez on a sac-fly to round out the scoring for the Lions.
    • Ferreri retired the side in the 9th to secure the 11-6 win along with his first decision of the season.
